My Puerto Rican Roots
I am an Afro Latina born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Inwood, NY boarding Washington Heights and Riverdale. Both my parents were born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

My Travels to Borinquen
My first travel to Puerto Rico was when my mother went to give birth to my younger brother. I do not remember much of that visit. However, the stories are still so vivid in my mind. I was a three years old non-stop talker that would visit my uncle to keep him company while he roasted pigs. My mom told me my uncle would light up when I entered his store. He lived and worked in the street called Cangrejo in Mayaguez. A small town where every neighbor was like a family member.

I had my first taste of coffee in Puerto Rico. It was a family trip with my mother, younger brother, my aunt, grandmother, and cousins. The aroma of Puerto Rican coffee is intoxicating, sweet, loving, and romantic – it’s the soil and it’s the people. I have traveled to Europe and tried many different types of coffees. I hold many great memories of my coffee experiences throughout my travels. However, I find Puerto Rican coffee unique! It’s because it holds that connection to my mother and abuelita – it’s family!

Coffee Moments
I love to travel, and I love coffee. No matter where I go coffee is always my morning ritual. Coffee helps me to reflect, whether venturing out to new places or sitting in my favorite spot at home and having coffee in my favorite mug. I meditate on situations in my life that need adjustment, caring, and immediate attention. It’s my therapeutic way to focus on things that I need more clarity and guidance. It’s a moment when I can ask the universe for all the goodness it has to offer, and I feel centered and grateful. I'm so thankful for coffees and travels!
